Snake Projects
Welcome
This site brings together what has been running under
different websites previously.
If you share my ethusiasm for reptiles, in particular snakes,
you are at the right place. This website presents quite
different stories, but all are connected by a common theme:
Snakes of the Indo-Australia.
A topic connected to snake farming of the reticulated
python, though not obviously, is the project on Biological
Rodent Control, which I have been working on for a large
part of my professional career. It centers around a
protozoan parasite (Sarcocystis singaporensis) that develops
in the reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) and rats
(Rattus and Bandicota spp.), and is used for rodent control in
Southeast Asia. This part is not quite ready yet.
Wagler’s Viper Site (on Tropidolaemus wagleri and related
tree vipers) has been online since 2004. I had a lot of
positive feedback from visitors, colleagues, and friends.
Thanks! Here, the site has freshened up in terms of looks
and presentation. Content-wise it is basically the same, but I
have been working on some updates and included a new
chapter on venom!
And more…..plenty of images on snake breeding projects
on a snake farm on Sumatra.
I have been working with local people on
rodent management projects in the
rugged terrain of the uplands of
Northern Laos for quite some years. I
tremendously enjoyed this part of my
job, although life was not easy all the
time. Here is video footage that
complements of what I have published
on this topic together with others.
